April 9, 2019
BALTIMORE -- On April 9, Constellation, a leading competitive energy provider, will kick off the 10th?anniversary celebration of the Greening Baltimore Schools Initiative, in which Constellation volunteer teams support school greening projects -- such as tree plantings, garden maintenance, raised bed repairs and other outdoor activities -- at eight schools throughout the city. In total, more than 125 Constellation volunteers will participate in the effort.??
In partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools and local business and community leaders, more than 10 volunteer service projects in total this month will mark the 10-year milestone of the initiative, which provides support to student led "green-teams" implementing projects from school gardens and outdoor learning spaces to energy efficiency. Spearheaded by Constellation, other organizations participating throughout the month include, BGE, T. Rowe Price, Maryland Port Authority, Baltimore Office of Sustainability and Baltimore Community Foundation.
“Community service and community leadership is an integral part of our culture at Constellation,” said Funmi Williamson, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Risk Officer. “We love rolling up our sleeves and volunteering alongside bright, dedicated people who are committed to improving our schools and communities. As a local business, we are so excited to be part of the journey to keep Baltimore schools green while developing future leaders.”
Since the program's inception in 2010, more than 70% of Baltimore's public schools have participated and received grant support for school greening projects. The initiative has helped individual student leaders, schools, and the school system overall increase their sustainability practices.?
Schools teaming with Constellation on April 9 include: Augusta Fells Savage & Bluford Drew, Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle, Fort Washington Elementary/Middle, Green Street Academy, Hamilton Elementary, Harlem Park, William Paca Elementary, and Federal Hill Prep.?
